More or Less Democratic

donkey show by HoboElvis.Do you think that the United States or where ever you live should become more or less democratic? I think, me living in the United States, should become a little bit more democratic. We the people should have a little more say in situations and other global things. But if we become to demoracatic then the people may fight over thing. One person may want something and the other wants something else. So there does have to be a balance if we want our country to run smoothly.

Dangerous Question

There are many different questions that you can ask and they can all be dangerous. But there is one question that people ask a lot that you may not think is so dangerous. It is how have you been? Know you don’t know what the person is going to answer they may say…Oh it was great! Thanks for asking. Or they could say….Not so good. I have just been diagnosed with a really bad disease. They could also say that something tragic has happened to their family. It can really go any way. So be careful when you are asking you questions. You may never know what someone is going to answer.

Electoral Collage

American flag by kahunapulej. If there was no Electoral Collage then we would get to vote directly for the president. But what would the qualifications be to do so? I think that you would have to be well educated (SMART), have to take a test to see if you have actually followed politics because if you didn’t then you would just be voting for the wrong person. Just like now you have to be at least 18. Also you must understand the priorities of being a president. This is because when you vote you look at what the president did and you need to uderstand that to know what they are doing. So as you can see there are many qualifications that could go on and on forever. What are your qualifications for voting?

Cherokee Story

Mama: All of us on this journey have had some hard times. Every since we Cherokee’s were in contact with European explores we have been one of the most progressed American Indian tribes. But we were very different from the people in Europe. Slowly but surly the white influence came into Cherokee and we were changed forever.
Father: Every since our part of Tennessee got owned by the Americans we have been on the move towards Oklahoma. (cough, cough) Many people around us did not want to move, but President Jackson made us and here we are. With hunger, diseases, and exhausion during this walk it has been especially hard on the kids. It is depressing to known that has a father I can not help them.
Little Girl in Yellow: I am getting tired of walking this march. I just want to go home and be protected. My feet ach and my stomach growls. Everyone here in my family is very hungrey but Pa says that he can not get us any food. He just says that we have to keep on walking. I don’t think my sister can stand another minute of this.
Sister: I don’t want to be here any more. I have seen a lot of people dead along the street and I don’t want be one of them. Everyone is crying, crying, crying and can’t stop. Father is looking pretty sick himself. He can’t stop cough and I don’t think he will last very long.

Verb….It’s What You Do!

                                       waiting by rayparnova.

What would your name be if it was a verb? I think mine would have to be dancing. That is my favorite thing to do. I do all types of dance like tap, jazz, ballet, and pointe. They are all so much fun and I love to do them all.

Edublogers Student Competition

Blogging can help connect with different ways with people. You can get to know them even if you haven’t meet them before. Just by reading what they wrote you can tell what they like to do, what there favorite subject is, or just what is there favorite food. It has especially helped with me to get to know people from everywhere around the world. I have gotten to know many student, adults, anyone from parts of the world I have never been. I have made many new friends through blogging and learned a lot about them. You could also interact with them. The two of you could get a skye together and do a video chat. Then you could see what you look like. So as you can see there are many things you could do with blogging with other people.

What Inspires You?

What is one thing that you inspire the most? Is it your mom, sister, or a famous actor? The thing that I inspire the most would deffinatly have to be my mom. She helps me do everything and does everything for me. I don’t think I could ask for anything more. She talks me though the hard and easy times. My mom also helps me with homework or something that I am stuck on. I can look up to her anytime.

I tag 21st century learning to do this post.

The Three R’s

At my house we do everything to try to use the three R’s. We recycle all paper types and waterbottles like: newspapaer, worksheets, and letters. We also reuse all waterbottles. We try to reduce all types of things. If we could use less water and paper we would try to do so.  What do you do to recycle?

Actions OR Intentions?

How would describe someone? By the actions or intentions? I think I would look at them by there intentions not there actions. This is because someone could have the means to do something good but they don’t. Say that someone was going to robed a store, but once they broke in the alarms went off and cops got him. He didn’t steal anything but he was going to. Would you put  him in jail or not? What if you hear that he was just trying to get some medicine for his child that was very ill? Would you still send him to jail even if his child didn’t get this medicine he would die? If you wouldn’t then that would be looking at his intentions. There is another example on Diana’s blog. She works at a school and they didn’t get their newspaper because of something that was written in the paper would have been inappropriate. And the publisher said he would call them but he never did. What would you do?

Please Visit Me

How would you get someone to come to your blog?
I think that I would first go to there blog and leave a comment. Then they would comment me back. And if someone else wants to comment the same person they can look at all the other comments and see mine. When they do then they would come to my blog. And comment, then I would go to theirs and comment. This is a endless cycle and a great way to meet many new friends.=]

Last Person On Earth

I have just gotten tagged by Kristen. If I were the last person on Earth I have no idea what I would do. There would be no one to talk with and no one to play with. I think I would end up like that man on the island from Castaway. He went insane!! I would to if I only had a volleyball to talk to.=] Any was I would do everything I couldn’t do when there were people are around. Like get any pet I want, dance all I want with out getting yelled at for making to much noise, and make a whole room in my house a dance studio. That would be the life. Also with no one around no one would make fun of me for dancing around. I would also go to a nice beach and just sit there and tan. Now THAT would be the life!!=]=]

One Wish

There are so many things in the world that you could wish for. Whether it was for you, someone else, or the whole world. One wish that I have is to make all the conflict in the world to go away. With all of this gone we could get so much accomplished between each countries. If we weren’t to conscience about people blowing us up we could work with one another. This could make the world even bigger in technology and many other things. With more friends, more things can get done and the more we can grow.

A Wonderful Place

There are so many different places that people call their own “Wonderful Place”. It can be different to all of us. For one person it may be their tree house, and for another it could be their home. Everyone has there own special place they like to go to and relax . My wonderful place would definitely just have to be my own mind. It is great to just sit down anywhere and think about all things. No matter what is going on around me, or no matter what happened that day. I can just let it all out in my own head and think over some of those things. Where thoughts are legible in the eye... by carf.
I could wander about so many different things. Whether it’s a academic problem I had trouble doing in school today, something that is as caught my eye today or from years ago, or just about the people that are nearest, dearest, and the ones I love the most. Anything can go on in my mind. BIG things and small thing. Stuff that may not matter seconds from now or stuff that can mean the world. Many things can go on here. The best part about it…..only you now what is in your mind and heart. Only you can follow what your heart and mind tells you. You can accomplish many things when you think and think and think them through. All of these reasons are what makes this my favorite place to just sit and relax.
With your mind you can image many different places and ideas. You can go anywhere when you set your mind to it. Think of somewhere or something and you are there. Whatever you want and you can have it. Right at your finger tips. Another good thing about this is that it is portable. You can image and do what ever you want anywhere. So as you can see, by so many of these reasons, my mind is the best place to do anything and is where I do EVERYTHING. It is my wonderful place.

Louis and Clark Expedition

Napoleon and Louisiana
France is under control of General Napoleon Bonaparte. He is feared throught Europe. Napoleon dreames of rebuilding France’s empire. All through North America. The only thing standing in his way is a rebellion in the French colony on the Caribbean island of HIspaniola. A former slave has assumed leadership over this island. People everywhere from the Caribbean to the United States are alarmed by this successful slave revolt. Napoleon wants to regain control of the island. Sending a French army to recapture Hati the slave successfully fought the French forces. The French have failed to retake the island.

The Mississippi Region

U.S. leaders have just learned that the French have regained ownership of Louisiana. France began watching Napoleon’s actions suspicion. President Jefferson knows that a French-occupied Louisiana could block the westwarde expansion of the United States. The French could interfere with U.S. trade along the Mississippi River. New Orleans busy seaport has rich cultural heritage. These docks are filled with valuable furs and many other products. Many cargos are sent to Europe. There are a varity of language and culture. This diverse community of the seaport is the main point of Jefferson’s foreign policy.

Purchasing the Territory/Surprising Offer
President Jefferson wants to keep the French from controlling New Orleans. He is hoping that the U.S can buy the port city from France and that will solve the problem. Jefferson has instructed Robert Livingston, the U.S ambassador to France, to try and purchase New Orleans and Flordia from the French. Livingston and Monroe is meeting with the French minister, Charles Talleyrand, to discuss the offer. Napoleon is willing to sell Louisiana for many reasons. But he had no suplies. Napoleon hopes that by selling Louisiana to the U.S., this would challenge Britain. They are agreeing to buy Louisiana from France for $15 million and sign a treaty.

Expanding the Nation
Jefferson does not believe that the Constitution has the power to bring the territory of Lousiana into the United States. Livingston feared that France would withdraw their offer so Jefferson should act fast. He excepted the offer and the Senate approved the treaty and made the Louisiana Purchase official. Although the bounderies aren’t clearly identified, the Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the U.S. President Jefferson is pleased with what the land can offer. He says proudly that the Louisiana Purchase expanded “the empire of liberty” and provided “a widespread field for the blessings of freedom.”

My Inaugural Speech

My fellow citizens:
I am honored to be hear talking to you today and taking on the responsibility of becoming your president. Many things have been going on in our world; including the war, healthcare, and the economy. These indicators are what we should be focusing on in the New Year. These issues are real and a serious matter. They are as real as they ever will be. I feel that we should take hold of these problems and deal with them to the best of our abilities.

The time has come for us to make a better nation. “The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, and that noble idea.” (Obama, Inauguration Speech) To become this better nation that we stride for we need to grab hold of the opportunities that we have. To weaken all of the issues that is faces today. There are so many things to do but in so little time.
For everywhere you go there are things to be done. The state of the country commands action, for people to take risks. This is how we, has people, will expand our nations boundaries. To learn about the things around us and to be risk takers at things we do. And this will not be easy. They will need to be earned.
This journey we continue today. But we will start anew to change America has we see it today. Everyone who seeks a new future will lead our country to great things. But to the people that seek terror, know that you can not break us, we will defeat you. And just remember these words, “The world has change and we shall change with it.”(Obama, Inauguration Speech)

What Would You Change In Your Life?

The first thing that I would have to change in my life, so I could change the world is how I go about doing things in my life. Whether it is homework, doing chores around the house, or the out look on life. I need to figure out how to go about things in my normal day, before I do anything with the world. Always start small and then build your way up to things.
Hope you take this advice!

What’s For A Snack?

Something that I always eat when I get home is any type of fruit. What ever we have at my house. The typical fruit that I eat are: apples, oranges, pears, and grapes. The ones that I have on occasion are: tangerines and clementines. They are all good and delicious. An apple a day keeps the docter away!!

Be A Friend

What do you look for in a friend? What I look for is honosty, loylity, trustworthyness, and to just have a good time. All of these things are very important in a relationship. I know that my main friends have all of those qualities. It’s great to have someone to go to in hard times, fun times, or just to talk about anything. I know that we could get through anything with each other. So go and talk to your best friend and see if they have the qualities your looking for!

A Powerful Thing To Say To Someone

What is the most powerful thing you can say to someone? That is the question you should asked yourself everyday. I think the most powerful thing is to just be yourself. Being you is the most interesting thing in your life. So be you and not someone else. Your friends aren’t you so you don’t need to copy them. Just remember………BE YOU!!!!

The Question That Will Get You Thinking

There is one question on Bill Genereux blog that had really gotten me to think about my life. It is, the quality of my life is determined by the quality of my              ? If you think that you could answer this question let me know what it is. I would love to know. What I would put in the blank is actions. The reason why I chose this was because how you act can affect your life in everyway possible. Your always have to watch your actions. So make sure you watch your actions and your life will great!

The Pet I Wish I Had

I wish that I had either a King Charles or a Morkie as a family dog. The King Charles is a very smart dog but a Morkie is a very, very, very cute dog. I mean just look at his cute little face. I would be happy with either one of them.=] There both amazingly adorable and smart.

Kids Left On School Buses

Many innocent little kids are being stranded on a buses. And this is not uncommon. Edwin Rivera is left alone on a school bus on New Year’s Eve. He was found 17hours later. A 4 year old girl with special needs is left behind twice in a 10 month span.  “You’d think that now we’ve got it to the point where everybody understands how important this is,” New Jersey State Senate says. Bus workers are suspended or they are fired over the incidents. Many school systems are cracking down themselves to stop this problem.

Happy Holidays!!=]

Happy holiday’s to everyone. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I got 15 presents this year for Christmas. My sister, Taylor, got 20, my other sister, Lauren, got 17, and my brother got 11. I mad because I usually get the most presents but…….OH well. It’s Christmas day and I haven’t opened my presents yet so I hope I get a digital camera and a rip stick. I defiantly think I get a rip stick because there is a tall thin present just sitting there.

Dancing With The Stars Blog

I love the Dancing With The Stars Blog. It is because the show is great and I love watching all of the different types of dancing. Also all of the stars that are on the show. This year was an amazing year because I actually knew some of the people on it. Like Cody Linley from Hannah Montana. He plays the character of Jake Ryan. This is a great show if you like to dance and watch stars dance. Especially if you like to watch them mess up and make fun of themselves.

My Best Post: My Presidential Letter

Where I have Improved the most: I have improved most in my writing and how to elaborate on thing that I write about.

Some skills that I have learned are to elaborate, link different sources so people can get a better look at what I’m writing, and to use pictures so people can see what I’m talking about.

Why is it good to write with a world wide audience in mind: That way you are a cautious writer and they can critique you writing.

The History Of Thanksgiving And Its Myths

Every fourth Thursday in November many Americans celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. Some of these people find it has a day to have a big feast, while others find it has a day to come together with family and give thanks that they have a meal to eat and shelter. The story that we all now of the Pilgrims and Indians sitting down for a meal full of turkey, cranberries, cornbread, and pumpkin pie is all a myth. The truth is that the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony had shared a meal with the Wampanoag Indians. This was during autumn of 1621. The certain facts about what they ate and all of the specifics are uncertain. The only document that they have found was from the Plymouth Colony’s governor, Edward Winslow. It stated that they met with the Chief Massasoit and 90 of his men for a feast that had lasted four days.
There isn’t much evidence but people have made a hypothesis on what the Pilgrims ate, how they ate it, when they ate it and what they wore at the first Thanksgiving meal. What the document says they ate is vension and fowl. And it is most likely that they didn’t eat anything like mashed potatoes, dried corn, or fruit. It is also most likely that they did not eat roasted turkey. And no one back then saved any room for pumpkin pie.
A myth in its own is how the food was served. What we now of it has is the Pilgrims and Indians sat down bless their food and then passed the servings of food around the table. It was really like the food was set down on a flat surface and the meal was consumed in the span of three days. There was no ceremony and no one had to ask for more servings. When ever they were hunger they went over to the food and ate. But I have a question myself. Wouldn’t the food get cold and nasty over the span of three days if it is just sitting there? I mean with all the bugs and stuff all around them.
My family normally goes over to my grandmas and grandpas house for our Thanksgiving feast. We have all of the things that the myths says people have. Like the turkey, pumpkin pie, cranberries, mashed potatoes, and gravy. But most of those things I do not like. For instance the cranberries and gravy. Turkey isn’t really something that I like but I eat it. If it was my traditions I would have ham. I mean come on who doesn’t like ham? Any ways before we eat we say grace and bless the food. Then we just dig in and start to eat. It is a great time to spend with family and I look forward to it every year. Mostly just for the food and that we have two days off from school!=] That is always the best part.

Video of the Week

I have had this page for a while now (Video Of The Week). There are some good videos there that you deffinatly have to check out. There great!!=] But sometimes I forget to get upload new videos. Sorry for that if I do. If I happen to do that sometimes I will make sure that I have 2 videos for you next week. Or I may even upload the video in between weeks.

I have just got a new video. And it is kind of catchy. I have no doubt that it will be stuck in your head forever. Exspecially if you watching it more than once. Just from a personal experience my friend was so mad at me today because I kept on singing the song. And when I said it she had just gotten it out of her head. So it may be a great way to bug your friends. But that isn’t the only reason why you should watch it. It will just make you laugh. Go to my Video of the Week page to get the links. =]

Library of Congress

Have you every heard of the Library of Congress? Well it is basically a library that has all information on well……everything! Any ways.. some kids in my class (me and some other people) are doing this thing were we archive websites of what kids our age like to go on. When we are done with the archiving we are going to give all of the information to the people at the Library of Congress. Once it is there, people years from now will be able to look at what we archived and see what it was like in the daily life of a teenager in the 21st century.

This is so cool because not only will some people now me now from my blog but people will now me years from now from the work I did. Also I didn’t tell you the coolest part. My blog and 26 others are going to be archived. So people can see what we did in school. I can’t wait till it is finished and see all of the neat stuff we didn’t. I will make sure to keep you posted on all of the things we do at our meetings.

And also if you miss a day were I may have put up a post about it just go to the page LIBRARY OF CONGRESS.

Last Chance to Shine

I chose to write about the reefs. At this website I found out amazing things about all these different reefs. It told me that there is a world wide campaign that raises money for all the different coral reefs. It is the ICRI International Year of the Reef 2008. Some ways to get involved in helping the out the reefs is to register you IVOR 2008 Activity.

I also found this other website. It talks all about the other coral reefs and what is in them. How they a diverse habitat. It also states that live in a marine habitat. The habitat is also like a rain forest. It has areas of strong shade, cast by the overtowering  of coral.

Evolving Classrooms: From 19th Century to the 21st Century

Things have definitely evolved from the 19th century to now. Whether it is from a classroom itself, or the testing, or even what they were learning in the classroom. I will guaranty you that things have changed drastically in every way has possible.

In the 19th century one classroom held  kids of all different ages. So not only were you learning about things your age but also topics a couple years ago. And the teacher was usually an unmarried woman. Sometimes even the kids could be older than the teacher. Also the testing and quizzing was very common. The teachers would give an oral quizzes at the end of the day to see how much the students have learned or know. The first standardized test was introduce in 1870s. It was so if you wanted to go into high school, all kids from rural schools you had to pass the two day, Eighth Grade Examination.old classroom (Mie Prefectural Normal School) by shuichiro.

Now, the teacher has been to school, always older than the students, and could be a man or a woman. A lot of things have changed from back then. The testing was close to similarity. Like how you take a test to measure one’s knowledge. Also you get quizzed and tested on throughout you hold school year. But unlike in the 19th century these test were done on paper not oral. The tests number of tests available and how long you have to do them have increased because of political pressure of schools. These new tests have tried to make it so that the content of the test is the same from community to community and from state to state.

a view from my desk by steev-o.

So has you can see a lot of things have changed in the testing aspect from then to now. From oral to written. From everyday to one every two weeks or so. From no amount necessary to a specific amount. Just be happy that you don’t have to take a quiz everyday.=]

My Letter That I’m Sending to President Obama

President-elect  Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

 Dear Mr. President:

I am happy that you are in office because I know that you will concentrate on all of the big issues in America. You being elected as president were one of the best things we as Americans could have decided. I think you can help our country figure out what we need to do to fix and reinstate all of the top issues that we are faced with in America today. With you doing so I feel we can get back on track and start to help people with the fact of the matter. All of the concerns and questions that the people of America have need to be answered so no one will be left behind or confused with the agreement that they might be making in their life style right now. This just may change their life drastically in as many ways as possible. And that is why we need to be straight forward about all settlements that we are making.
I am writing this letter to inform you about the necessities of the educational issue. Since I myself am a kid and being in school I have found that some kids do not always take it seriously. They find every subject to be boring and useless to know. Teachers in this century have to make the classrooms more inviting so the students will be willing to learn new things and expand their horizon. If you are asking the students to sit in a desk, look in a textbook, and do the work in the book all period, they are probably more likely to get into mischief. And that is why the kids are getting distracted so easily and find the need to talk to their peers while trying to do all of the work that they need to do for that one class. All of this happens when the teacher tells them to sit there, be quiet, and do their work. I feel it is an accident just waiting for someone to get into a mishap. That is why they need someone to watch over them during his/her time in their book learning experience.
This has to do enormously with the no child left behind program. I tremendously love this program very much. It is a great way to have more students graduating from high school and even more going on to doing bigger and better things in college and beyond. With more people showing the kids that they can do anything they want to do and be anything they want to be, having more people encouraging them, they will want to learn all of these exciting, new things. They should be willing to do whatever it takes to help any one thing. These students will need to have a teacher or guardian backing them up every step of the way in their school carrier. That way they make the best decisions that they could make possible. Then these kids will exert to that additional mile to accomplish many more belongings that will help them later on in life. So he/she can help all things around them. All of the education they are getting will not only benefit them at that time but everyone and everything around them later on in life.
Everyone should have early investments in their school funding.  So they can have the best experience in there educational adventure through out their entire life. When the teenager has to worry about how he/she is going to pay for their school employment, they can not concentrate on their studies. Then they will get caught up in that and might fail the class. If we are going to have more employed people in our country the educational system needs to be more affordable and less high demanding on the paying consumers. Not all of the homes can afford the expensive costs of the academic system that is being offered to them today. The cost of this can go up radical in just the four main years that one person has to go to collage. It is a great experience that everyone should have the chance to attend. The wisdom that the teens are learning in their daily lives now can help our country later on if there’s any crisis that we may have to face in the future. Or if we just need to know more about one certain topic the kids will know what to do because of what they have learned in the past during there informative school time. As I have said once and will say again, this is beneficial to everyone and everything around us.
What the country needs is a fresh start on everything. We need new ideas and new actions on all of the main issues. Everything needs to be inexpensive and affordable for the essential user. But also the teachers and school funding needs to be alert and on top of all things that are happening in the school. I thank you for taking you time to read this letter and I cannot wait to see what you will do for this country in every way possible. Thank you for your time and effort.

 Yours truly,
Cameron Maselli

Hey everyone thank you for commenting my post about my birthday. I didn’t like I would get so many comments on something like that. Any ways I promised some people that I would post up what I did the whole day on my birthday, so here you go. First, I got up early because I had to go to school. But when I did wake up I was breath taken by this huge balloon that was the shape of a cup cake. I got so started by it, but it is a very cutie balloon. It sort of look like this one here but it had a candle on the top of it. happiness is a colorful cupcake by bookgrlNext, I was surprised by a small little cake for my breakfast. But I saved it for lunch at school. Everyone loved it and thought it was so cutie. After school when it was time for dinner we had a special dinner for my birthday. And we had another cake! So I got like two cakes for one birthday. When we were done eating my mom went in the next room and when she got back she had a present in her hand that had like 5 balloons around it. When I opened it, it was the UGG shoes that I wanted. They are the chocolate brown knitted UGG boots. I was so happy when I opened it I couldn’t stop thanking my parents.
So as you can see it was the greatest birthday every and I  could have asked for a better one!!=]

Recycling Week

How do you recycle in your family or school? In my family we try to recycle anything that can be recycled. Everything from glass, plastic, newspaper….anything. Some people come to collect all of the recycling every two weeks. Just recently we have gotten a bigger bin to hold all of the recycling. That way we can convert more things. It is a great way to help the environment.

In my school we are trying to do more for the environment. We are trying something out were we have to baskets and one is for all types of paper and the other is for plastic, like water bottles we get at lunch. One time, in the lunch room, we tried to separate the garbage from the trays. But that didn’t work out so well because none of the kids would follow that rule. It was a great idea though to try to recycle.

Everyoneshould reduse, reuse and recycle everything. We all need to help the environment every way we can.

Another Anniversary For All The Veterans

Next Tuesday the kids in Connecticut are going to celebrate all the veterans that have died for us in World War I. The day November 11th is the anniversary of the end of the war. It was first only celebrated in 30 states in 1919. A resolution was passed by Congress making all the states reserve that special date. It was made a legal holiday nationwide in 1938. What people once new the day has Armistice day is now know as Veterans day.

Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery by tomfs
“Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to god”
A ceremony the happens throughout the United States. It takes place at the Tombs of Unknownsat Arlington Nation Cemetery in Virginia. This tomb contains unknown soldiers of World War I and II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. This is guarded 24/7 by specially trained members of the 3rd United States Infantry.

Veterans day 2008, President Bush has told everyone to celebrate Veteran’s day by supporting the troops. Not only for the people that have died in it but for also the people who are fighting in it now. He has said that all the flags are to be raised as an activity for the day. Everyone should take part in this project on Tuesday.

Red poppy by steffofsd. The reason why people wear red-corn poppies on Veterans day is because that was the only plant that grew on the battlefields. It grew in disterbed soil that was abundant on the battlefield. In a few weeks the plant would blossom. The battlefield turned out to be blood red, not only from the blood of the soldiers but because of the red poppies that grew. Here is a poem:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

– John McCrae

Count to Three: 1…2….3!

I check out many blogs today and they were all great. The first one I went to was Bigfoot’s blog. One reason why I chose it  was because it has a little bit of everything. I feel like everyone can enjoy it. If you like to play games he has a link to one, if you like festivals he wrote about one, or if you just like to learn more about other cultures like his own he tells you about one of his class (ICT). The second blog that I clicked on from bigfoot’s was Bazza. The main reason why I chose this one is because of the name. It drew me in without even look at the blog. One thing that I learned on the blog was that he likes soccer. Without even asking him I new that. This is also a very diverse blog. And the last blog that I clicked on from Bazza’s and also commented was Chole. The reason why I chose her blog was because she loves animals. She has so many. Have you ever had 30 GOLDFISH at one time???!!!! Isn’t that so cool. One thing that I had to ask her though was what ICT stood for. I saw it on every blog that I had clicked on. So I just had to ask her what that meant. Once I get the answer I will get back to you all.

My favorite festival would have to be Halloween. I don’t know if you all know about it. I have just learned that Australia does not celebrate it like the people in the United States do. It is basically a day were everyone dresses up in a costume of your chose and you go door to door and ask people for candy. You don’t really ask them you say, “Trick-or-Treat!!” The people at the door will know to give you candy because it is just a tradition. It is on the day of October 31st. This festival is on this day because it is the end of the growing season. It was the end of crops when they would die and the farmers would have to wait all winter till the next season. Some traditional thing that you do is hand out candy, dress up and go trick-or-treating, and carve pumpkins. Carving pumpkins is a big thing. First you have to carve a top out of the top of the pumpkin. Then you have to get all of the guts out of it. Like the seeds and other slimy stuff you will find in it. When it is all out you carve a little face or design on the pumpkin. What people usually do is make the eyes and sometimes the nose triangles and make the mouth look like it has teeth. After you are done with that you put a candle in it and make it glow. Know you have yourself a wonderful jack-o-lanterns!
Just a couple of days ago I had to do some community service. And you know what I had to do……carve pumpkins. Actually my job was to get all of the guts out. We had to get 400 pumpkins carved but the night I went only had to do 200 of the 400. Lucky we had gloves on but it took a lot of work. Other people were making cross on the outside and we were going to put them in front of our church. It took a while but we got it all done and they looked great!!
So do you go out on Halloween and if you did tell me about it and how you dressed up!! I was a soldier. The costume looked just like it. I had the comoflag  outfit with a hat and everything! Tell you the truth it was actually a dance costume. Hahahahahhahahah=]    -stubc08

Cha Cha’s Blog

I love Cha Cha’s blogbecause she/he has a lot of things that I don’t know of. I don’t even think that is her/his real name but I’m getting on it. I literally just sent her a comment. But I will get on that so you guys aren’t wonder so much. Soooo…. it lets me learn more thing that I do not know of. I think she is from Australia. I also asked her that in the comment I left. I will get back to you on that one too. But I am going to be commenting her blog and we are going to go back and forth will each other to learn more about the differences between the two countries.

I feel like poverty is becoming a big affect. More than half of the human population suffers from poverty. Now that you may have to pay more taxes on things people can afford to pay for the necessities. Like food, clothing, and safe to drink water. The different factors of poverty are erosion, desertification and overgrazing, deforestation, climate change, geographic features, and drought. I have listed many different factors that have been known to cause poverty to get you aware of what can happen. That way you can see that there isn’t just one way of this happening. This is a picture of a little girl that was effected by poverty.         -stubc08

2008 Presidential Elections

In the 2008 Presidential Election, I’m going to support Barack Obama. One reason why I’m going to vote for him is because he will provide new tax cut for workers and new tax benefits to help families pay for college, childcare, and save for retirement. He will make sure that the federal government will never allow such a catastrophic failure that had happened during Katrina. Obama also believes that we should cut the tax rate on 95% of the families. He also wants to provide generous tax cuts for low- and middle-income seniors, homeowners, and families sending a child to college or looking to save and gather wealth. Barack also wants to reduce the cost and save typical American family up to $2,500. And those are the reasons why I and you should vote for Barack Obama. Who would you vote for?

Lisa’s Blog

This one lady has a blog that my class had to check out and it is very real and touching post. We all had to leave a comment and this is what I wrote:

I feel like many people are getting bullied but the kids do not want to talk about is with there parents. That is the problem because if they don’t talk about it then bad thing might happen like that little boy you were talking about.              -Cameron

National Bullying Prevention Week

Bullying is a big thing in the schools. Just because someone is different looking like having glasses or a weird hair cut. But most of the people that do the bullying have been bullied themselves in the past. That is way this website is the best. It is for the National Bullying Prevention Week. It really shows what bullying is like and helps people with there problems. You can send an email to Sally and she will talk to you about what is bothering you. It also shows you what you can do to help others when you see bullying happening. You have to speak up for the target, reach out to the target, be a friend, and speak up to the bully. This website also has videos showing everyone what bullying is, what bullying feels like, and what you can do. So speak up about bullying and stop whoever is doing it.

Where are things made?

Here are 10 items and where they are made. Do you think you could do the same? If you do more items then you could use word cloud and enter them in. When you added all the names then the one you used the most will show up the biggest. See which one will be the biggest or country were most things are made.

Where I Live

Hey everyone. I like in Wallingford, Connecticut. Here is a link to a picture of the state and town. It is a little town were you can find anything down any street you go down. May daily routine is that I try and wake up at 6:30 but by the time that I actually get out of bed it is either 6:40 or 6:50. Then, I go to the t.v and watch the weather to see what type of clothes I have to wear for the day. Next, I turn on the straightener if I want to straighten it that day. While it is heating up I go and eat my breakfast. When I am done I go and officially straighten my hair. After I do that I find what I’m going to wear and get dressed. And last but not least it is most important before I go to the bus is………….I brush my teeth=]     -stubc08

My New Avatar

My old avatar was this little kid from Yo Gabba Gabba. (for more information look at previous posts below) Now my avatar looks like me. But in cartoon form. With my brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses. I choose that background because it reminds me of dance. Like with the disco ball coming down and making the streaks on the wall. For people who know what I look like do you think we look alike? Survey yes or no by leaving a comment.       -stubc08

What Is Somethig You Dont Usually Notice

Is there something that happens so often that you don’t notice it anymore? Something that I just noticed is that my mom makes my lunch and my bed. Most people have to do that by themselves…. everyday. But not me. I’m very thankful that my mom still does all of that for me. Also I do not have to do chores. A lot of people are assigned to chores. Like washing dishes, ironing, sweeping, or vacuuming. If I had to pick something that I do most often it would be the ironing. And not just my clothes but everyone in the family. It used to be my sister that would do that but she passed it down to me. My mom does most of the things in my house and it is something that she always does I don’t notice it and don’t thank her enough.

Things To Think About

What have you stood up for in the past? This isn’t the question people ask themselves everyday. But take and second and really think about it. Something I have stood up for are my friends. If somebody was picking on them I would go over there and tell them to stop. When it was for there height, glasses, or there new hear cut. I know that a lot of people help me with that because people pick on me for being short. And I have learned to except that and get used to it. Now when my friends stick up for me I just say it is OK I hear that a lot. I just think that the person that is picking on me is just doing that because other people probably used to pick on them when they were younger.

Another question that you could ask yourself is what will you stand up for in the future? I would stand up for is all the families that get hurt because there child was in a drinking and driving accident. I would make it clear to all people that is not good to do that because if that was your family you would care. And probably in most of the accidents there was a sober person in the car that could have been driving. I know a lot of people that have gotten killed from that and it is just escilating. More and more people are doing it even thought know it is wrong. I want to do something about it know before it gets even worse and people start not caring about it anymore. Think of something you will stand up for.

What is holding you back from standing up for something you believe in? One thing that is holding me back is that I’m only a child. Most people would think that that doesn’t matter but think about it. Would you listen to a 12 year old? I know that if I was older I probably wouldn’t. I would think that they didn’t know what they were talking about. Another thing that is holding me back is that I wouldn’t know where to get involved. I don’t even know if we have something like that in my town. What is something that is holding you back?

One last question is what would you be willing to risk your life for? I would have to say family and friends. That is because they are the most important people in my life. Without them I could do nothing. They are my strength and were I get all of my faith from. If I didn’t have them I don’t think I would be able to live. All of them hold me up and help me when I’m down. If I’m in a bad situation they stand up for me. Or I need help in school or something else they give me advice to get me through the situation.

These are a lot of things to think about but they play an important part in your life.

Who can figure it out first? Who ever can figure it out by Monday or Tuesday will be posted here as the master for a week!! So try figuring this one out!

September 11, 2001

The date September 11, 2001 will always be remembered. It maybe known as a bad day to some people, but the people that were lost then will never be forgotten. They will live in our hearts forever. I won’t ever forget the day when I was in first grade ready to have snack time. That is until I got called down to the office. My mom was there ready to pick me up. Me, my mom, and sister went down to Fairfield to try and comfort my aunt. Her husband was in the building at the time working there. Lucky he had just made it out. I know it is a day I will never forget. So you shouldn’t forget it either.

*Sorry to all the people that were lost that day and thank you to all the people that help*
